Rescheduling
We’ve just found out that tomorrow night’s show at the
Portland has been cancelled and is going to be rescheduled for January.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience and the short notice. We’ll let you know as soon as we know any more!
The First Nöel
As a blatent, Cowell-esque Christmas cash in we present to you our take on classic 18th Century carol “The First Nöel”. You can hear it being played out on Cambridge 105 Radio tonight from 7pm by the inimitable Mr. Rich Hughes, or download it for free right now:
We’ll also be playing at the Portland Arms, Cambridge on the 28th of December next week. Hopefully you won’t...
South Street Arts Centre, Friday 9th December
Next Friday, we’ll be heading down the road to Reading, where we’ll be headlining the RUSS “An Evening With…” series at the South Street Arts Centre, or alternatively from a queue of traffic around the M25. It’s a meagre £2 entry and starts at 8pm. Support will come from local folks Patch Bawn and Jamie Strand. Have a flyer:
And the Facebook-aware of you...

Thankyou & New CDs!
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who came and saw us last Saturday! It was hot, and loud, and we were going a little crazy, but we had a fantastic time!
As hinted at on Saturday, we’ve just released two entire new floppy disc split A-side singles in the vein of 2008’s “Petrodollar / Analysis (Redux)”: “Atomic Clock / Sleeper Agent” and “WWSYD? / Kim Wilde”:
They’re available from our...

Wish You Were Here Festival
It’s nearly time! This Saturday, we’ll be playing at Cambridge’s premier all-day festival,Wish You Were Here. It’s going to be a fantastic day, with loads of artists split across four stages.
Tickets are £13.50 advance and we’ll be playing at The Portland Arms from 6.45pm, so come on down and witness the debut of Rhys’ new, non-randomly-going-out-of-tune...

Status Report, July 2011
It seems like an age since we told anyone what we’re up to (our sporadic Twitter updates notwithstanding), so it seems like a good time for us to sit down and bring you up to date. We were hoping to have some “multimedia” (remember the 90s?) to go along with this, but events have conspired against that, unfortunately.
We’ve been in the studio recording several new songs...

Right, so some exciting news we’ve been sitting on for a bit too long now… our music has been used in a short film by NYU film student Nathan Wang, “Empty Skies”. Via the magic of the internet, you can watch this very film right here:
We’ll stick it up with the other videos on the site soon, too. Thanks Nathan!

So we found out that you can actually change that enormous URL that Facebook gives you to something more user-friendly. I think this is what it’s like to start feeling old, when you’re the last person to understand something about a technology everyone’s using…
Anyway: http://www.facebook.com/cityseventeen. Share it with your friends! Your colleagues! People you...
It seems that the whole importing our Twitter feed into this section of the site is a bit broken… I think for now it’s better if we disable it so you don’t think we’re actually insane/speaking in tongues. Those of you desperate to engage in low-level banter about what we’re doing on a daily basis should probably follow us on Twitter.

One of the greatest things we’ve ever seen: @ANTAmusic.
I think that the dual bank holiday weekend has sent everyone’s conception of time and date completely off.
So earlier when we said “tomorrow”, obviously we meant “thursday”. Though now it’s actually tomorrow. If you see what we mean.

We’re playing at the Haymakers, Cambridge tonight! Enjoy a beer in the sun and a selection of fine purveyors of amplified rock music.
Just to let you all know, we will be headlining at the Haymakers, Cambridge next Wednesday night (the 20th), with support from Dtsp, Born Blonde and Cavalier. It’s going to be a night of fantastic music, so come along!
Those of you hooked into the latest information superhighway crazes can find the Facebook event right here, right now.
RT @djayc: If anyone is looking for some good, chill music to listen to while they work / play / sleep, I highly recommend City Seventeen.

Almost by accident we’re arriving at a point where we’ve gone from seemingly nothing to a litany of material hanging round, and are in severe danger of actually having a new record out at some point. Okay, so maybe that’s pushing it a bit, but when you move at the pace we do sometimes then almost any progress at all feels like a mammoth achievement. Weird how things creep up on...
Oops, sorry about the video appearing twice. I had managed to create some kind of universe-imploding Vimeo-Tumblr feedback loop.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see us play last Friday at the Haymakers! We had a great time and it was fantastic to meet and talk to some of you. Sorry about the lack of available copies of EP2.
The last few days have seen us fairly busy recording some new material, mainly “The Pentagon” which a few of you will have already heard, having been a staple of our live set for a while...
Great time last night with @vesselsband, who are amazing live. And great for oscilloscope and minor electronics chatter.
This friday: we are supporting Vessels and Stuart Warwick at the Haymakers in Cambridge: http://t.co/c4Gqf8u

Last but one rehearsal before next Friday. This one decidedly better than previous few. Technical problems appear to have disappeared as magically as they came into being, and all was sounding good. Please do come along on Friday and watch it all come undone…
Still no pictures. Sorry.

Astute readers will have noticed that in my excitement over supporting Vessels I claimed it would be on Thursday the 4th of March, but the 4th is in fact a Friday. The date is definitely Friday the 4th (nine days away from Friday the 13th, should any numerologists wish to make any startling predictions), not Thursday the 3rd. Even more astute readers will notice that I changed the date in my...
It’s been a long time since we said anything and since outward communication is not really our strong point I thought I’d take the chance to try to break that particular habit and maybe let you into our little world a bit. Not that there’s much to say; Jon has been ill all week and hence rehearsal/recording has been at a bit of a standstill, though I have been holed up in front...

Did we forget to put up the rest of the videos from the night at The Junction? Are we total failures at the internet? Yes on both counts, until now!

Time Flies
Well, it’s been a long, long time since we wrote anything here. Thankyou, sincerely, to everyone who came out to the show at The Junction—we had so much fun, and there’s so much to show you from it, leading out with my particular favourite:
Our friend Sam Taylor took a load of amazing photos of us, too:
You can see the full set over at Sam’s site.

EP2 on Spotify
Good morning all, just a quick note to say that we forgot to mention that EP2 is available on Spotify for those of you who are users of their fine service. Hurrah!
Rehearsal in the thunder and lightning! Ideas for light show next Friday now brewing…
One week to go before we’re playing at The Junction and have officially “made it”, possibly.
EP2 & Live Date
So, EP2s are in the post and should be with you all very soon. Thanks for all your patience whilst we got everything together.
You can purchase copies of EP2 both physically and as digital downloads from either the IFF Transponder Recordings Online Shop (physical copies only) or from BandCamp (physical or digital).
You can hear the whole of EP2 by looking over there to your right, or by visiting...

Site update, more EP2 news...
The observant amongst you may have noticed a lovely new design on the website… all part of the build up for EP2, which will be available on the 31st May 2010 from this very website here, the IFF Transponder webshop, and now, excitingly on Amazon MP3, iTunes and Spotify!
Progress Update
We’ve been hard at work assembling copies of EP2. It feels like forever that we’ve been making this record and the sense of relief at having it here, physically, in our hands is huge. The release date is nominally 31st of May 2010. Yes, we know the video said April.
In other news, you can now buy physical copies of EP1 and Petrodollar / Analysis (Redux) via BandCamp. To celebrate...

Writing for the forthcoming LP is pushing ahead. Sometimes forwards, sometimes backwards. Here’s the second part of us rehearsing some new material in the official City Seventeen bunker; this time it’s a new song called “Gantry / Maersk”. Hope you enjoy it!
